Teaching with Primary Sources &amp; Humanizing Stories Told Across Different Media

**What to Expect:** This is an experiential learning workshop that invites you as participants to give yourselves over to the power of stories as we demonstrate new methods of teaching and learning. We'll read, watch, listen, and analyze stories as told in various media forms as we alternate between media immersion, class discussions, pairs or small group activities, and solo reflections.

The workshop is organized in 3 phases, building progressively from *observing* (**See One**) new methods to *trying* (**Do One**) new methods to *putting into practice* (**Teach One**) new methods. Therefore, attendance each day, for the entire session, is essential.

**Schedule:** We have three action-packed days planned that include educational entertainment, periodic breaks, and opportunities to collaborate and compare notes with your peers. The schedule is as follows:

- **Tuesday, May 16th**: 10:00am- 3:00pm ET
- **Wednesday, May 17th:** 10:00am-3:00pm ET
- **Thursday, May 18th:** 10:00am- 1:00pm ET

*NOTE: Lunch will be provided each day .When you register for the workshop, you may specify special dietary needs.*

**Prerequisites:** There are none.

**Pre-Work:** We do ask that *all participants complete some essential pre-work* before the workshop begins. It should take *no more than 2-3 hours* and will set the stage for learning on Day 1 of the workshop. After you complete the registration, we will send detailed instructions -with ample time to ask questions and prepare before May 16th.

**Meet the Teaching Team:** Robert L. Selman and Susan Johnson McCabe will be facilitating the workshop. Jen Fischer, Executive Director of [**Journeys in Film**](https://journeysinfilm.org/) will be our special guest sharing insights and expertise about the use of film in education. X-Media Teaching Fellows will provide additional support.

**Location:** Gutman Library -Conference Center Rooms 5 &amp; 6 (lower level)

**Cost:** Through the generosity of the Library of Congress program, this workshop will be provided *at no cost* to the participants.

**Certification:** All participants who complete this 3-day workshop will earn a Cross-Media Certificate that signifies Level 1 mastery of the new methodology and will be eligible to apply for the X-Media Lab’s Summer/Fall stipend and earn Level 2 mastery of the new methodology.
